Telespazio: A Key Partner for Access to Space at the Guiana Space Center

10 July 2024

Telespazio, a subsidiary of Thales and Leonardo groups, is the trusted French operator facilitating access to space and the exploitation of space infrastructures for its institutional customers, primarily CNES and MinArm. In the field of access to space, Telespazio has been operating and maintaining most of the electronic means at the European spaceport in Kourou, French Guyana, for over 40 years on behalf of CNES and Arianespace. To this end, Telespazio France teams in Kourou played a crucial role in the preparation and during the launch of Ariane 6 FM1, ensuring that all systems were operational.

Telespazio France, as the main contractor of the new MICO industrial contracts will also support the transformation and increased competitiveness of the base through the deployment of a more agile organization and new management methods based on Lean.

Furthermore, Telespazio France, following a "build and operate" strategy, contributes to the modernization of the systems it operates by integrating innovative solutions based on artificial intelligence to increase digitalisation, remote management and predictive maintenance. As a result, for several years, Telespazio France has been leading flagship projects at the Guiana Space Center such as SETTERS, ST2, and more recently iCDO (New Operations Center of the base).

The full and constant commitment of Telespazio France teams has been a key factor to  meet the technical challenges due to the combination of diverse technologies (Telemetry, Networks, Information System Security...), interfaces with many complex systems, and the diversity of deployment sites in order to be ready on July 9th. Telespazio France is proud to have contributed to the success of this historic first launch of Ariane 6.

These activities dedicated to the heavy European launcher Ariane 6 are key for Telespazio, which has also created a comprehensive service offering to support micro-launcher manufacturers in their launch operations from Kourou or elsewhere.
