The power of satellites serving Africa
Space offers a great opportunity to support development in Africa. Whether for climate change monitoring, land planning or providing better communications, satellites can meet many economic, social and strategic needs.
For the MESA programme (Monitoring for Environment and Security in Africa), Telespazio France and its partners—Meteo France International and Thales Alenia Space—have integrated, validated and deployed 166 satellite receiving stations in 49 African nations.
Supported by the European Commission and the African Union Commission (AUC), the MESA programme aims to strengthen data management, decision-making and planning capabilities for African agencies in charge of the environment, climate monitoring and food security, by making it easier for them to access and use Earth-observation data.
