After launch, a satellite needs to send a certain amount of information. This information includes telemetry, which requires a network of downrange stations around the globe to cover the launcher’s entire trajectory. This chain spans the continents, making it possible to maintain permanent contact with the launcher through receiving antennas.

Telespazio France provides on behalf of the French space agency CNES the satcom link for Ariane 5 launchers between the launch base in Kourou and the downrange tracking stations in Natal, Brazil, and in Libreville, Gabon.

Besides the satcom link, Telespazio France’s teams also operate these two receiving stations and provide through-life support.
